Midweek Furnace

Another key aspect of our discipleship journey at Eastgate is the Midweek Furnace on Wednesday evenings. This powerful equipping evening, based at Eastgate, provides training and activation through multiple courses along with a time of worship and an opportunity to eat together. Some of our courses last for 6 weeks, some for 12 weeks. Most need to be signed up for.

Midweek Furnace FAQ

Why is it called the midweek furnace?
That is a good question as there is a lot of talk in the bible of furnaces and not all of it is positive (although Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did have an amazing encounter with Jesus in the fiery furnace!). Don’t fear though, we have not named the Midweek Furnace based on these, but because of Proverbs 17:3 where we read that the furnace is used to purify gold just as God purifies the heart. Our vision is that these evenings will be a time of purifying encounter in the fiery presence of God that will transform our hearts and draw out the purest of gold.
The timing of the evenings
The building is open for food from 6:30pm onwards.
At 7:30pm we have a time of powerful worship in the café enabling those who join us late to still eat and join in with our worship. From around 8:15pm we then break into various courses for the remainder of the evening. We aim to finish at 9:30pm.
Eating together and worship
We provide some simple food and refreshments free of charge on the evening (there will be an opportunity to donate financially towards your food). You can also buy Pizza from a Pizza van in the carpark, and you can of course bring your own food as well. (Eastgate Café will not be open for orders during the evening.) We are open for people to eat together from 6:30pm until we transition to our courses at 8:15pm. Worship starts from 7:30pm and will also be held in the café area. This is so those of you who cannot make it until later in the evening can still eat with us and not miss the worship. All we ask is that you keep conversations to a minimum once worship has started. At 8:15pm we then transition to our different groups.
How to join

Scroll through the courses above and press the sign-up button on the course you want to join. A new tab will open in your browser, fill in your details on that page and press the sign-up button.

What happens next?
Once you have joined a course you will receive an email confirming your registration and reminding you of the course dates. Then just turn up for the Midweek Furnace at Eastgate on those dates. You will be told which room your course will meet in by the host after the worship time.
How will the courses work?
Courses run over either 6 or 12 weeks. Once you have signed up for that course we ask that you stay with that course for the duration so that you go on the journey together.
How many courses can I join?
Please only join one course at a time. We ask you to stick with that course for its duration. There will be an opportunity to join courses advertised for the next term ahead of time.
Can I join courses at anytime?
This will depend on the course. Some courses can continue to be accessed throughout the term. Others take you on a journey that requires you to join from the beginning. Don’t worry though if you have missed your favourite course. Many of them are repeated at other times through the year.
DO I NEED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR EVERY WEEK OF MY COURSE?

We appreciate life happens. So, it’s not always possible to attend every week of a course. However, we do encourage you to make every effort to attend all the sessions you can. So much of the value of the courses comes through the going on a journey together and a number of courses have incremental teaching.
