Coach Training for Leaders: The Basics

Do you lead at church, at work, in the community, at home? Then why learn to coach? Teaching, telling and encouraging others to do is not enough – whether at church, at work or at home with your children… (wife or husband!) Coaching is an essential skill that every leader needs to release all their people to become more able to contribute, grow and thrive.

When coaching as a leader you will:

  • Listen in a new and deeper way to the heart of your people
  • Ask questions that build and affirm their identity
  • Tap into and engage an individual’s and a team’s core motivations
  • Offer personal transformation and release
  • Draw out responsibility and leadership in others

And you will become:

  • More able to lead yourself
  • More of the leader each person needs you to be
  • More self-aware and reflective
  • More able to draw on the wisdom of God and value wisdom in those around you
  • More deeply trusted as you honour those you work with
  • More empowered to lead collaboratively through relationship

After nine sessions, you will have achieved the basic skills to equip you to become a coaching leader. In each two hour session, you will have an opportunity to observe, learn and try out critical elements of coaching techniques that you can immediately apply to lead at church, work or elsewhere. As part of the programme, you will directly experience the power of being coached.

The course will run at Eastgate on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm – 9.30pm. There are 9 sessions starting on 18th April 2018 and finishing on 13th June.

Charles McLachlan

Coach Training for Leaders: the Basics is delivered by Charles McLachlan, Chairman at The Academy for Chief Executives and a participant in the Eastgate School of Spiritual Life. Charles was managing director at Management Futures (a pioneer in coach training and leadership development), an elder in the URC and workplace pastor at Cambridge Community Church. He and his wife, Jill, have recently moved to Moggerhanger Park to establish a Christian community serving leaders bringing Kingdom transformation across key sectors of society.

“I was catapulted from being a technology expert in an international consultancy to running a coach training and leadership development business. My coach training has enabled me to lead and have an impact in settings as diverse as the national executive of a political party, a university technology spin-out, a team of international litigators and the leadership of a national Christian charity. More importantly, I now understand myself and others with a completely different set of perspectives.”
